The Stress of a Brand New Computer

Buying a new PC or Mac is supposed to be exciting, but modern computer setup screens are designed to be confusing, pushing unwanted subscriptions and accounts.

The "Out of the Box" Overwhelm

When you turn on a new Windows laptop or MacBook, it immediately demands Wi-Fi passwords, forces you to create Microsoft or Apple cloud accounts, and pushes you to buy cloud storage. We navigate and bypass these confusing screens to set up a simple, secure, and private local account.

Removing the Junk (Bloatware)

New computers are filled with manufacturer-sponsored "trial software" like McAfee Antivirus or useless games that slow the computer down and generate terrifying pop-ups demanding payment. We completely uninstall this bloatware so the computer runs fast and silently.

Moving the Memories Safely

The biggest fear of getting a new computer is losing years of family photos, tax documents, and browser bookmarks on the old one. We perform a secure, local data migration via USB drives to copy every important file exactly where it belongs on the new machine.

Making It Easy to See

High-resolution modern screens make text and icons incredibly small. We adjust the accessibility settings, scale up the display, enlarge the mouse cursor, and increase font sizes so older adults can read emails and articles without straining their eyes.

How Our In-Home Setup Works

We handle the frustrating technical hurdles so you can simply sit down and use your new computer.

  1. 1
    Unboxing & Physical Setup:

We unbox the device, manage the power cables, connect any external monitors or wireless mice, and ensure the computer is positioned comfortably on the desk.

  2. 2
    Account & Security Configuration:

We decline invasive data-tracking requests from the manufacturer, set up a simple offline password (or configure fingerprint/face login), and install critical operating system security updates.

  3. 3
    Browser & Email Restoration:

We install their preferred web browser (Google Chrome, Firefox, or Edge), sync their old bookmarks, and get them permanently logged back into their Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL accounts.

  4. 4
    Personalization & Training:

We clean up the desktop screen, pinning only the necessary icons (Email, Internet, Photos, Documents). We then patiently walk the user through where everything is located on their new system.

Seamless Transition from Your Old Device

A new computer isn't fully set up until it connects to the rest of your daily life.

Printer & Wi-Fi Reconnection

A new computer will not automatically communicate with an existing home printer. We will locate your home Wi-Fi password, connect the laptop to the internet, and manually install the correct drivers to get your wireless printer working again.

Secure Device Wiping

You should never throw away or donate an old computer without destroying the personal data on it. Once the data transfer is fully verified, we can perform a secure digital wipe of the old hard drive to protect against identity theft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about upgrading your computer hardware.

Do you sell computers, or do I need to buy one first?

We are an independent service concierge and do not sell hardware. You will need to purchase the PC or Mac before we arrive. If you are unsure what model to buy, you can schedule a quick consultation, and we can recommend a simple, cost-effective laptop based on your specific daily needs.

Will I lose my old photos and documents?

No. Safely transferring your data is the most important part of our visit. We use physical USB drives to copy your important folders directly from your old, slow computer onto the new one. We do not delete anything from the old computer until you personally confirm the files are safe on the new one.

Microsoft is demanding I buy an Office 365 subscription. Do I have to?

No. Both Windows and Mac setups are filled with aggressive screens asking for credit cards for cloud storage and software subscriptions. We will help you click "Skip" and "Decline" on all unnecessary upsells, keeping your computer functional without hidden monthly fees.

How much does a new computer setup visit cost?

Our rate is a straightforward $50 per hour. Unboxing, removing bloatware, and connecting a printer usually takes about one hour. If you require a massive data transfer (hundreds of gigabytes of photos and videos) from a very slow, failing older computer, the transfer process may require a second hour.
